About The Forbidden City
The Forbidden City is former palace that was constructed for
the
Ming dynasty and their emporer in the early 1400's.
It is located in Beijing, China's capital city. The forbidden city is
north of the tiananmen square which also a great place to visit in Beijing.
The meaning of The Fobidden City translates to '紫禁城' (Zijin Cheng).
The city was called Cheng and Zijin translates to forbidden.
It is called the Forbidden City as a refrence to the fact that no one could enter
or leave the city of Cheng without the emporer's permission.
The city has over 1,000 buildings and has many beautiful old artifacts and architecture.
This palace is the worlds
largest imperial palace! The forbidden city was home to about
20 emperors, possibly more! Although this city is huge about 30-40% of the area is still
locked from visiters. But, that does not mean there isn't places to visit while there! The city became
visa free in 2017, so make sure to take advantage of that!
